August is set to become an extremely busy month for anyone who doesn’t know what to watch when it comes to streaming services and theater releases. Lots of big hits, fresh content, a mystery of the superhero type, and even some emotional movies will hit screens during the same week, making your watchlist extremely full. 1. Lioness Season 3 — August 2, Paramount+
If you don’t know what to watch then the third season of the espionage thriller created by Taylor Sheridan premieres, once again starring Zoe Saldaña as CIA agent Joe McNamara who leads the Lioness program and undertakes the most personal mission. Alongside her, Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Kelly return to their roles, and this time the plot gets quite close to Joe’s family. The season premieres once a week, and all eight episodes will be released each Sunday until the end of September.
2. Ted Lasso Season 4 — August 5, Apple TV+
Finally after waiting for three years, Ted is back, but not as a coach for AFC Richmond’s men’s team. For the current season, he will be coaching an unappreciated and under-funded women’s second-division football club team. This is a different approach to the show which will cover such topics as pay inequality, gender discrimination, and struggle for recognition in women’s sports while keeping the same warmth and humor. Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Brendan Hunt are among actors returning. The series will feature some newcomers as well. 10 episodes released weekly.
3. Sterling Point — August 5, Prime Video
The new coming-of-age series by Megan Park (the writer of My Old Ass) is titled Sterling Point, and features 17-year-old Annie Jacobson, who ends up inheriting the island of her grandfather that is mysteriously dead from Canada. In the beginning, the inheritance proves to be quite weird but as it turns out, it results in a lot of friendship, romance, and family secrets being revealed.
4. My Life with the Walter Boys Season 3 — August 6, Netflix
If you’re thinking what to watch on netflix this weekend then I have an amazing option for you. Jackie-Cole-Alex’s love story is on its way to becoming an all-time classic yet again. Following up from where last season’s shocker left off, this time around we get to see the Walters family learn about their priorities after facing health issues. Meanwhile, Alex becomes fully engrossed with rodeo riding, and Cole takes to the racetracks driving a race car to find a new path for himself.
5. One Night Only — August 7, In Theaters
Here’s a new romantic comedy from the director of Anyone but You, Will Gluck, that sees two strangers meeting on the least romantic night of the year and just keep running into each other over and over again through the series of unfortunate events in a swoony new movie rom-com.
Anyone in the market for a big screen rom com should definitely check out this latest production.
6. My Brilliant Career — August 13, Netflix
There’s a brand new adaptation of Miles Franklin’s classic 1901 novel. The series stars Philippa Northeast as Sybylla, a very independent woman living in rural Australia that dreams of becoming a writer but finds herself pushed towards a conventional lifestyle. Life becomes even more complex when the wealthy neighbor falls for her.
7. Lanterns — August 17, JioHotstar
For DC, the upcoming episode will be a combination of rookie Green Lantern John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and experienced Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler). This series, which consists of eight episodes, is described by creator James Gunn as a “space cop version of True Detective.” It is coming out simultaneously all over the world. You won’t have to wait for it after everyone else.
8. The End of Oak Street — August 14, In Theaters
This supernatural thriller is led by Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor and directed by the director of It Follows – David Robert Mitchell. It is the story of one family who should stay united in order to survive a strange cosmic happening which takes their suburban street to another unknown place.
9. The Last Sunrise — August 26, Prime Video
The answer to what to watch on prime is Inspired by the novel written by Anna Todd (famous for After series), this romantic drama features Ry – a college student suffering from an incurable disease who takes her last summer holiday in Mallorca together with her mom. She meets a man called Julián who helps her to get used to enjoying life and be happy, no matter how her health is getting worse and how some family secrets revealed themselves. You will need tissues for this one.
10. The Whisper Man — August 28, Netflix
This psychological thriller movie features Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, and Michelle Monaghan among its main characters. The story revolves around a widowed author of crime novels whose eight-year-old son suddenly disappears and he has to ask his father – an ex-detective – to look for him. The case happens to be related to a serial killer from the past decades.
11. The Sun Never Sets — August 28, In Theaters
With Dakota Fanning playing the lead role, this relationship comedy from director Joe Swanberg takes place when the older man she’s dating gives her time off to make sure she’s certain she’s made up her mind about ending any dreams of marriage or children, but ends up meeting her ex in the process and getting stuck in an all-out crazy love triangle situation.
12. Dark Matter Season 2 — August 28, Apple TV+
For the second season of this multiverse mystery series, Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Connelly return. Since Season 1 ended the original book completely, this upcoming season will be a completely original story. The Dessen family attempts to find peace in their new universe after having their entire life turned upside down by “the Box,” but soon finds themselves at odds with the family due to the father’s obsession with it and the mother’s growing paranoia. Ten episodes, with new episodes dropping weekly throughout October.
